How Much Do Dog Walkers Charge? UK Rates by City, 2026

Updated 6 minsSources (3)

Most UK dog walkers charge £10 to £15 for a 30-minute walk, and the typical (median) price is £15. An hour costs about £20. A second dog on the same walk adds about £7, and one walk every weekday comes to roughly £75 a week. Even in London the median walker asks £15, the same as the country as a whole.

Those are the walkers' own prices, from the rates 310 dog walkers set on Sittsy in September 2026. "Most charge" means the middle half of walkers, once the cheapest and dearest quarters are left out. They're listed prices, not a record of past bookings.

How much is a 30-minute dog walk?

About £15 for one dog, with half of all walkers somewhere between £10 and £15. Thirty minutes is the usual walk, and an hour is there for dogs that need more.

Dog walking prices in UK cities

These are the 12 UK cities with the most sitters on Sittsy. Each area takes in every walker within 40 km of the city centre, and a walker near two cities is counted once, in the nearer one.

Nottingham£106
Derby£153
Whole UK£15310

Where you live barely moves the price. Nine of the 12 areas have a median between £13 and £15, London among them. What London does have is a longer top end: most of its walkers charge £12 to £17, and about a quarter ask £17 or more, while in most other areas the dearest quarter starts at £15 or £16. Belfast and Nottingham look cheapest at £10, but that's seven and six walkers, and Derby rests on just three. Outside London, read each row as a rough guide rather than a going rate.

By nation, the median is £15 in England (268 walkers), Scotland (20) and Wales (12), and £10.50 in Northern Ireland (10).

How much for an hour, a second dog or a puppy?

Second dog on the same walk+£7139
Puppy, 30 minutes£15138

Most walkers haven't set an hour price of their own, so the £20 comes from the 45 who have. Treat it as a guide. The sums still favour longer and shared walks. An hour for one dog (£20) costs less than two half-hour walks (£30), and two dogs out together (about £22) cost less than walking them one after the other (£30). Puppies, at the median, cost the same as adult dogs.

One 60-minute walk costs £20 against £30 for two 30-minute walks; two dogs on one walk cost about £22 against £30 walked one after the other

Are group walks cheaper?

Usually, yes. We can't measure it ourselves, because a walker's price on Sittsy is for your dog and doesn't say whether other dogs come along. But in a 2023 Mumsnet thread, most owners using group walks were paying £10 to £14 for about an hour, well under the £20 a solo hour typically costs on Sittsy, though one said the group walkers near her charged around £30. It's older and anecdotal, so treat it as a pointer rather than a price list.

A group walk suits a sociable dog with reliable recall. A solo walk suits a puppy, a nervous or reactive dog, or one still learning to walk on the lead. Before you set two quotes side by side, check the length and the number of dogs: an hour in a group and 30 minutes alone aren't the same thing at all.

How much is a 2-hour dog walk?

We have no figure for this. Walkers on Sittsy set a 30-minute and a 60-minute price, and nothing longer, so for two hours you'll need to ask for a quote.

Ask how much of the two hours is actually walking. In the same Mumsnet thread, owners describe paying £10 or £12 for an hour's group walk that keeps the dog out of the house for nearly two hours once the pick-ups and drop-offs are done.

How much does a dog walker cost per day?

It comes down to how many walks. At the median rate, one 30-minute walk is £15 a day, two are £30, and a single hour-long walk is £20.

If your dog also needs company between walks, look at day care. At a sitter's home it's typically £30 a day (138 sitters, most £24 to £40). That's the same money as two half-hour walks, and your dog isn't on their own in between. Compare doggy day care across the UK.

Do dog walkers charge more at weekends?

Some may, but we can't tell you how many or by how much: we don't have weekend or bank holiday prices of our own. If you need a Saturday or a bank holiday Monday covered, ask when you book.

How much does a dog walker cost per week or month?

At the median prices above, one 30-minute walk every weekday comes to £75 a week, about £325 a month. Two walks a day double that, to £150 a week. An hour-long walk every weekday is £100 a week, about £435 a month. A month here is 4.33 weeks (52 weeks divided by 12), rounded to the nearest £5.

What does a dog walk include?

Normally the walker collects your dog from home, walks them and brings them back with the water bowl topped up and muddy paws towelled off. Ask whether you'll get a photo or a message afterwards. Then agree the details before the first walk: on the lead or off, where they'll go, treats or none, and what happens in heavy rain or a heatwave.

What to ask a dog walker before you book

  • How many dogs will be out with mine? There's no UK-wide limit, but some parks and councils set one. The Royal Parks' code of conduct for commercial dog walking caps it at four dogs per person, and Leeds City Council's dog control order allows four, or six for professional walkers with the right insurance.
  • What insurance do you hold? Public liability matters if a dog in their care injures someone or damages property. Ask as well whether it covers a dog that's hurt or lost on a walk.
  • Have you done a pet first aid course, and what would you do if my dog got hurt?
  • Can we meet first and do a short trial walk?
  • Who walks my dog if you're ill or away?
  • Is the 30 minutes all walking, or does the drive count?
  • How do you keep keys and door codes safe?

The short version

  • Budget about £15 for a 30-minute walk, £20 for an hour and £7 more for a second dog.
  • A group walk usually costs less and suits a sociable dog with good recall.
  • London's median is the same £15 as the rest of the UK. Only its dearest walkers charge more.
  • A walk every weekday comes to about £75 a week. Two a day, about £150.
  • Before the first walk, ask about insurance, first aid and how many dogs go out together.
