Dog Sitting Prices in the UK: London and 10 More Cities
Updated 3 minsSources (2)
Dog sitters on Sittsy charge about £35 a night to stay in your home, and £37 in and around London. If someone popping in is enough, a visit costs about £15. So does a 30-minute walk.

Those are the sitters' own prices: the median of what 264 sitters across the UK list for overnight care in September 2026, plus the medians in the 11 city areas where at least five of them offer it. They're listed prices, though. Not a survey of past bookings. And outside London the samples are small.
How much does a dog sitter cost in UK cities?
Each area counts the sitters within 40 km of the city centre, each sitter once, in the nearest area.
| Area | A night in your home | Sitters |
|---|---|---|
| London | £37 | 101 |
| Liverpool | £30 | 13 |
| Birmingham | £40 | 11 |
| Bristol | £32.50 | 10 |
| Leeds | £28 | 9 |
| Belfast | £40 | 7 |
| Manchester | £32.50 | 6 |
| Swansea | £34 | 6 |
| Glasgow | £30 | 5 |
| Leicester | £30 | 5 |
| Nottingham | £30 | 5 |
| Whole UK | £35 | 264 |
London has by far the most sitters, so its £37 is the figure to trust most. Most of them charge £28 to £50 a night, against £25 to £50 across the UK (the middle half of sitters, leaving out the cheapest and dearest quarters). Every area's median lands between £28 and £40 a night. Where only five to ten sitters sit behind a row, though, one or two of them can shift the median by several pounds, so read it as a rough guide.
A pop-in visit or a 30-minute walk costs between £10 and £15 in every area, and £15 in London. Outside London, those prices rest on 5 to 16 sitters per area.
How much is a dog sitter per day?
That depends on whether anyone stays the night. For a dog who copes with a few hours on their own, pop-in visits add up like this:
- two visits a day: about £30
- three visits a day: about £45
- an overnight sitter: about £35 a night, £37 around London
Three visits, then, cost more than having someone stay over. And with a sitter who stays, your dog isn't on their own at night. If walks are all you need, here's what dog walkers charge, city by city.
How much does a dog sitter cost for a week?
Seven nights at £35 comes to about £245, or about £260 around London. That's for one dog. The 130 sitters who set a second-dog price ask about £15 a night more at the median, which takes a week with two dogs to about £350. Check the price for your dogs on the sitter's profile.
Dog sitter or kennels?
The practical difference is where your dog sleeps. A dog sitter looks after your dog in your own home. Kennels and home boarders look after it on their premises, and in England those businesses need a licence from the local council under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018.
The GOV.UK home boarding guidance is worth a quick read before you choose. A few points from it:
- a dog sitter who looks after the dog in its normal home doesn't need that licence
- a home boarder must keep dogs inside the home, not in outbuildings, cages or runs
- the licence has to be displayed on the premises, so you can ask to see it
If home boarding suits you better, sitters around London list it at about £35 a night (50 sitters), the same as the UK median (115 sitters).
