Daniel A.'s Experience

To ensure my dog Nola gets sufficient active play every day I make sure we play fetch or go swimming or play tug of war every day. I also like making my own food based enrichment toys for her. Nola has a skin condition which means she gets very itchy and develops spots and a rash on her face and chest. I have to treat this with frequent prescription skincare applications, so I have experience caring for dogs with health issues. I also have experience looking after rescue cats with extreme anxiety, to the point that one cat, Thomas's, owners were not able to go on holiday as he would hide and refuse to eat. I slowly built trust through play and treats and maintaining a calm environment for him until he was happy sharing space with me. He has even reached the point where he is comfortable sleeping on me. I looked after a cat named Yoshi as he battled health issues which lead to him needing medication, and assistance with eating and drinking, providing him comfort until he passed. I make sure to learn every animal's personality so I can interact with them in their preferred way.

A typical day

I'm an Aerospace engineering student, with flexible working times as I work on my masters dissertation. I love a very active life and compete at a high level in athletics so I'm often running! When I get home I walk the dog for at least an hour and then feed both the animals and make sure to play with the cat to ensure she has sufficient enrichment.
